Memory devices can store data permanently and temporarily. The following are the three main types of memory used in computers.

RAM (Random Access Memory)
RAM is one of the main memory device required for the performance of the computer. This memory can store and retrieve data temporarily. This memory is called random access memory because data can be stored at any memory cell at any point of time.

 ROM (Read Only Memory)
These types of memory can store data only once and they can be read several times. ROM is not only used in computers but it also used in various other electronic gadgets and appliances.

Secondary Memory
Secondary memory is probably an hard disk which is capable of storing data and information permanently. These data and information can be modified, deleted and moved to other location by the user.
